Physical Education at Haddenham St Mary’s
Physical education is an integral part of our school curriculum at Haddenham St Mary’s. We work hard to make sure that children get as much high quality physical activity as possible. On Tuesdays all classes have a 45 minute PE session which is led by Adam Mould from Ignite Sport. Class teachers are also part of these PE lessons which are based upon our broad and balanced scheme of work. This has been designed to ensure good coverage of sports and progression throughout our school and when moving forward to Haddenham Community Junior School.
Each class then has an additional PE session every week rotating between gymnastics and dance. Year 2 benefit from the expert skills of our tennis coach, Mrs Caroline Care from Haddenham Tennis club, who provides a weekly tennis session for the class. Many children go on to have regular tennis lessons with Haddenham Tennis Club.
Weekly ‘Wake and Shake’ sessions are led by Mrs Collett. We all look forward to this each week and now have a large repertoire of routines!
Children have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of after school clubs held from Monday to Thursday. Choices include football, multi-sports, gymnastics, street dance, tennis and ballet.
We take part in as many inter-school activities as possible, for example tag rugby festivals. We also participate in sponsored events for charities such as Sport Relief and hold specialist Sports weeks. We are really lucky to have a large field where we can enjoy playing outdoor sports. We have great fun at our sports day every year. Take a look at the photographs on our website.
